Issa Rae (Insecure) is set to produce – and possibly star in – a reimagining of the 1996 action drama Set It Off for New Line Cinema. This was first reported by Hollywood Reporter, earlier today. It won’t be a remake, as the studio and people attached to the project are saying it won’t necessarily follow the story of the original film.

Starring Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox and Kimberly Elise, the 1996-film was directed by F. Gary Gray and revolved around four friends who resort to crime after growing tired of their daytime jobs. The film was critically praised and made $41 million at the box office, on only a $9 million budget.
